I grew up in a close-knit Newfoundland community where storytelling, connection, and looking out for one another were simply part of everyday life. Those early experiences continue to shape how I show up as a therapist today, grounded, relational, and deeply attentive to the stories people carry with them.

Before entering the counselling field, I spent many years working in education, supporting children, youth, families, and colleagues through periods of growth, stress, and change. That work taught me that behaviour and emotions rarely exist in isolation; they are shaped by relationships, environments, and lived experiences. It also reinforced how powerful it can be to feel truly heard and understood.

In my work with clients, I aim to create a calm, supportive, and ethically grounded space where you can slow down, reflect, and bring what feels heavy without pressure to have everything figured out.

Whether you’re experiencing immediate distress or navigating long-standing challenges, my approach is collaborative and person-centred, guided by curiosity, compassion, and respect for your pace.

I believe healing and growth happen through connection, meaning-making, and developing a deeper understanding of yourself and your patterns, while remaining mindful of how personal histories, community, and cultural context shape our experiences. I strive to honour these influences by walking alongside you with empathy, respect, and cultural awareness.

I focus on supporting individuals as they navigate stress, anxiety, burnout, life transitions, and the emotional impact of school, work, or caregiving roles. Together, we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you and focus on what feels most important.

I draw from evidence-informed approaches that include:

  • Person-Centered Therapy, where your voice, story, and lived experience guide the work

  • Relational and strengths-based approaches that focus on building safety, connection, and empowerment

  • Solution-focused strategies that support practical next steps and present-day coping

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which helps you notice and shift unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns.

Outside of therapy, I value time spent outdoors, being in nature, reading a good book, and engaging in creative pursuits like sewing. These moments of grounding and creativity mirror what I encourage in therapy: finding steadiness, curiosity, and care in everyday life.

If you’re looking for a therapist who offers a steady presence, values relationship and reflection, and understands the importance of community and story, I would be honoured to work alongside you.

Life is a journey, a long hike through unknown terrain, with climbs and descents, and moments when we find ourselves on muddy paths, struggling to move through. Like any hike, it helps to be equipped with the right tools and supported by trusted companions who can share the load, steady us when the path is unclear, and walk beside us when moving forward feels impossible. My name is Nora Satmarean, and I am here to be your guide on this journey, walking alongside you with care, curiosity, and compassion.

I am a pre-licensed professional and an Expressive Arts Therapist in training, with experience in supporting teens and parents through the challenging and often anxiety-filled process of reintegration from residential care. I also work with seniors as they navigate changes in physical and cognitive abilities, as well as the loss of home, independence, daily routines, and sense of purpose.

Above all, my main qualification is life school. I was brought to this work by lived experience and a deep appreciation for the human journey. I know the intensity of feeling deeply, the ache of invalidation, the grip of anxiety and grief, the disorientation of beginning again in an unfamiliar world, and the unbearable weight of fear when your child is struggling. With over 20 years in music education, I have learned to connect with learners of all ages and backgrounds, adapt to their needs, and create supportive, welcoming environments that encourage growth and self-expression

My approach to therapy is playful, sensory-based, and deeply relational, guided by a belief that healing happens through experience, the body, the senses and creative expression. Our work may include movement, sound, art-making, story telling or simple body awareness to help you connect more fully with yourself.

When not in the therapy space, you can find me in my studio, exploring with sounds, on a trail, photographing nature’s wonders or in the garden, tending to my flowers.

Are you wondering if I might be the right companion for your journey? I invite you to reach out for a free 30-minute consultation, a gentle, no-pressure space to connect, ask questions, and see if our paths align.

I know therapy works best when people feel genuinely seen, heard, and safe to be themselves. Many individuals come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or unsure how to put their experiences into words. In our work together, I offer a calm, non-judgmental space where you don’t have to rush to “fix” yourself. Instead, we slow things down and gently make sense of what you’re experiencing with compassion and curiosity.

My path into counselling has been shaped by lived experiences of navigating identity, relationships, expectations, and emotional responsibility within family and cultural systems. As someone from a Muslim background, I understand the complexity of holding faith, values, culture, and personal needs simultaneously. I recognize how challenging it can be to speak openly when you’re used to prioritizing others, staying strong, or feeling misunderstood. Therapy, for me, is a space where your experiences are honored rather than minimized.

In sessions, the focus is on how life is truly showing up for you. Whether you’re feeling stuck, emotionally disconnected, struggling with anxiety, low mood, identity questions, or navigating cultural or intergenerational challenges, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, self-esteem concerns, and those who feel caught between who they are and who they’re expected to be, we move at your pace. You set the rhythm. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you better understand your emotional world and supporting you in finding clarity and direction without pressure.

My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, allowing sessions to remain flexible and responsive to your needs and life goals. I work collaboratively to support self-awareness, emotional processing with compassion, and the discovery of strengths that foster meaningful and sustainable change. Therapy is not about being told what to do; it is about being supported as you discover what feels aligned and right for you.

I am a pre-licensed Psychology student working under clinical supervision, ensuring ethical, reflective, and well-supported care. I offer counselling in English and Tamil, and I warmly welcome individuals from Sri Lankan and South Asian communities, as well as anyone seeking a therapist who values cultural nuance, faith-informed perspectives, and emotional safety.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will respect your story, honor your values, and move at a pace that feels right for you, I invite you to reach out. Contact us to book your free 30-minute consultation with me, and we can explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
